On May 11th there will be a referendum to determine if the Kaslo Fire Department will become part of the RDCK Regional Fire Service. The Kaslo Fire Department is in favour of this joint collaboration to protect the Community around Kaslo as well as the Village of Kaslo. Under the new service we will report to Regional Fire Chief Terry Swan and become the 18th Fire Department in the Regional District of Central Kootenays. Being a part of a larger organization will realize efficiency in many areas including training, purchasing, mutual aid, and centralized documentation.
In addition the referendum will determine the approval to construct a new Emergency Services Building for the area. This much needed facility will address the deficiencies noted from the audit conducted in 2009. The Audit stated the biggest risk to the Fire Fighters in Kaslo was the Fire Hall itself.
Please drop by the Fire Department any time for a visit.
